About the Speakers:
Dr. I. Stephen Brown, a graduate of Temple University
School of Dentistry, earned specialty certification in Periodontics and Adult
Orthodontics at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine, and
was the first dentist in the US to acquire this rare double specialty. He is a
Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and The International
Congress of Oral Implantologists. He is a Fellow of the American and
International Colleges of Dentists, and The Academy of Osseointegration. He is
a Fellow of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Founded in 1787, it is
the oldest professional medical organization in the country. It is, indeed, an
unusual achievement for a dentist to be honored by this prestigious society.
Dr. Brown serves as Professor of Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Dental Medicine, Professor of Periodontology and Oral Implantology at
Temple University School of Dentistry, and Director of the Dental Implant
Center at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He has recently been selected as an
Examiner for the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Thomas McCawley has practiced in Fort Lauderdale for
over 30 years. A graduate of the University of Illinois College Of Dentistry,
Dr. McCawley holds a specialty degree in Periodontics from Boston University
School of Graduate Dentistry. He is an adjunct clinical assistant professor at
the College of Dental Medicine at Nova Southeastern University and formerly at
Temple University College of Dentistry. He is co-chairman of clinical
Periodontics at the Broward Community College Dental Research Clinic and a
Fellow of the prestigious American College of Dentists.
Dr. McCawley lectures frequently to universities and
dental groups throughout the country and internationally on “Periodontics for
the 21 Century – The Latest Advances in Anti – Infective Therapy,” and on
Practice and Life Management.
He recently presented new groundbreaking research on
laser effects on bacteria at the AADR meeting and will be lecturing about this
study at the AAP meeting in San Francisco. He has published several articles
including research on lasers in the Journal of the American Academy of
Periodontology and the Journal of the Florida Dental Association. In 2009, at
the height of the financial crisis, he published a book to help young dentists
and others with their life balance and finances that has sold over 1500 copies
and he has donated over 500 copies to dental students at Nova and many others.

Dr. Jin Y. Kim attended the dental school at University of
Sydney, Australia, where he grew up. He furthered his education with
an advanced degree in pathology at the Medical School of University of Sydney,
graduating with honors in 1988. From 1989-1991, he served as a Christian
missionary in his native Korea, having been deployed by the Uniting Church of Australia. Dr. Kim then settled in
California, where he completed master degrees in public health and oral
biology, and a three-year specialty residency training program in periodontics
and implant surgery at UCLA School of Dentistry.
In 1999 he became board-certified by the American Board of Periodontology
(ABP), and in 2001, became Fellow of the International Congress of Oral
Implantologists (ICOI). Fellowship
in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry was earned in 2007, and Dr. Kim
also became board-certified by the American Board of Oral
Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID), in 2006, and in 2012 he
was inducted as a fellow of the prestigious American College of Dentists.
